Born in South Korea but raised in the Netherlands, Koen combines an international background with a truly Dutch upbringing. Much of his childhood was spent on the water, where he discovered a love for sailing at the age of five, a passion that would stay with him throughout his life.

At just sixteen years old, he spent six months sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, an unforgettable journey that not only strengthened his love for sailing but also broadened his perspective on the world. His passion for the maritime industry led him to work as a sailing instructor while studying Nautical Business Management.

Through his travels, Koen encountered a wide variety of cultures and people, fueling his interest in international environments. Combined with his natural enthusiasm for helping others, this inspired a career focused on supporting clients. After graduating, he started working at the international department of a bank, where he advised consumer clients and discovered how rewarding it is to guide people through important financial decisions.

Koen has brought that same passion for helping people to Expat Mortgages, where he is working towards becoming a Mortgage Consultant. With his international mindset and genuine interest in people, he is excited to help expats navigate an important decision in their lives and feel right at home in the Netherlands.

Today, Koen lives in Roermond with his American fiancée, as his international outlook continues to shape both his personal and professional life. Outside of work, you’ll still find him on the water whenever possible, enjoying the sailing lifestyle that has been part of his story from the very beginning.
